![]() The fried chicken was a large boneless piece of chicken, plenty enough for a meal. I could pick it up and it didn't fall apart. The biscuit was tender and not too crumbly. I think I made a good choice to create an a la carte meal because the roasted tomato gravy, which was about a cup's worth and looked like marinara sauce was amazing as were all the other parts of my meal. All the food that should be served hot was hot (indicating it was made to order) and the kale salad was already dressed. ![]() The biscuit appears bigger than it actually is because being drop style, it spreads and so it's thinner than a cut biscuit. One for the biscuit and the fried chicken and another for the kale salad and roasted tomato gravy, each in its own little bowl. That allows you to enjoy your food and prevent it rotating as you eat. Tip about stopping your pie tin rotating while you're eating. So, the ham, egg, cheese and fried green tomato are served on top of the biscuit so this is meal that requires cutlery. As mentioned previously, the biscuits are drop style which means they done have so much height as cut biscuits so they're difficult to slice (to put in your filling). The red eye gravy is served on the side fortunately. My husband's food looked amazing and like a substantial lunch and too much food for a breakfast. It had the perfect balance of mint, sweetness and heat from the jalapeno. I think the restaurant calls these something else) are housemade and the one I chose was most flavorful. All the chutneys (this is what I call them. I took a small paper tub (1" diameter) of the mint jalapeno chutney. While waiting for our food, I had noticed a condiments table so I went to investigate. If you like Biscuit Heads biscuits a lot and want to recreate the taste, they sell Mason jars of the biscuit mix at the register. I make biscuits from scratch but I have to make cut biscuits. However, drop biscuits make complete sense because there's less wasted dough. ![]() If you go to a chain biscuit restaurant in the South, you'll get a cut biscuit. For those who are biscuit afficiandos or foodies, the biscuits here are drop biscuits, not cut biscuits. The restaurant was still very busy and we found a table at the front of the restaurant after searching the back, the patio (at the back where you can enter from the parking lot). We were given a number and seated ourselves. I guess this is not the dish to order if you have high blood pressure. Nonetheless, we appreciate the warning that the ham is extra salty (which is normal). The lady at the register took the trouble to explain country ham to my husband who is not from the South but we live in Durham, NC so we're familiar with country ham and eat it ourselves. My husband ordered the country ham biscuit which was country ham, fried green tomato, cheese eggs, and red eye gravy. This lady on the register had to listen to my order twice to know how to ring up the following: one biscuit with the roasted tomato gravy plus fried chicken and a side of kale salad. I have an egg allergy so I created a wholly a la carte meal because I wanted to try one of the many gravies made by the restaurant. breakfast food, most of the house created biscuit meals included an egg. We had ample time to peruse the menu and since this is a biscuit based restaurant, i.e. It was after 1pm by the time we joined the line and despite the time, the restaurant was full and when we got to the head of the line, the lady on the register said we'd have to wait to order because there were no free tables for us to sit after our order was taken. I did that while my spouse stood in line. Just get a coupon as soon as you enter the restaraurant, complete it and pop it in the slot for the number of the space your vehicle is parked in. Parking is in city lot behind the restaurant. It was a reasonable 5-10 minutes (which was in fact accurate). I called ahead from Sunny Point Cafe to get an estimate on the wait time for a table. ![]() My spouse and I dined here in July 2015 after our first choice, Sunny Point Cafe, had an hour long wait for a table and I'm so glad we ended up at Biscuit Head in the West Village neighborhood in northern Asheville. ![]()
